Manila: Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla, Local Government Secretary Jonvic Remulla, and Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr. will continue to be part of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s Cabinet, Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin announced Thursday. Speaking to Palace reporters, Bersamin confirmed the news, stating that Marcos opted to keep the trio in their current positions to ensure the continued smooth operation of their respective departments.
According to Philippines News Agency, this move comes after Marcos' directive for a Cabinet revamp following the May 12 midterm elections, part of a broader push to enhance government efficiency and responsiveness. Bersamin explained that retaining the Remulla siblings and Teodoro would allow the government to maintain stability in crucial sectors such as justice, local governance, and national defense.
Pressed further if Marcos accepted the resignation of National Security Adviser Eduardo A±o, Bersamin said he has not received any information on the matter. "I do not know yet because that is a personal thing for the President. You know, security adviser iyan (he's the security adviser). Actually, the resignation letter was not coursed through me because that was a personal. Kung ayaw ni Presidente tanggapin (If the President does not want to accept), that's up to him)," Bersamin said.
Marcos is eyeing a major Cabinet shake-up to enable the government to improve government services to address the immediate and day-to-day needs of Filipinos.
Defense Secretary Teodoro expressed gratitude for the opportunity to continue his role. "Our mission at the DND continues. I thank the President for his continued trust and confidence as we pursue his vision of strengthening the nation's defense, protecting the patrimony of our archipelagic nation, and promoting regional peace and stability," he said in a statement.
