PBBM Vows Action Against Violators of Bulacan Flood Control Project

Calumpit: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has pledged decisive action against those responsible for the failing flood control infrastructure in Calumpit, Bulacan. During an inspection of the rehabilitation efforts for the river protection structure at Barangay Bulusan and the flood mitigation structure in Barangay Frances, Marcos expressed his determination to hold accountable those responsible for the subpar work.

According to Philippines News Agency, the river protection structure was constructed by St. Timothy Construction Corporation, while the flood mitigation structure was handled by Wawao Builders. These two companies are among the top 15 contractors for flood control projects across the country. Marcos criticized the contractors for delivering substandard work, highlighting signs of concrete deterioration due to non-compliance with project specifications.

Both firms declared the flood mitigation projects as completed, yet Marcos pointed out discrepancies in their claims. He expressed frustration over the false reports of completion, emphasizing the evident quality issues. He also criticized the contractors for their misleading claims about the completion of dredging and desilting works in the areas where the flood control structures were built.

Marcos highlighted the apparent neglect in completing necessary dredging tasks, as evidenced by the presence of an overgrown island in the river, which indicated a lack of recent dredging activities.
