Manila: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. will not intervene in any move to file an impeachment complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte, Malaca±ang said Tuesday. Speaking to reporters, Palace Press Officer Claire Castro stated that the filing of an impeachment complaint by any group is beyond the President's mandate.

According to Philippines News Agency, Castro emphasized that the bid to impeach Duterte has not been discussed in any meeting convened by Marcos. She reiterated the President's firm stance that 'those who must be held accountable should be held accountable,' but clarified that the impeachment process is not within his authority.

Complainants in the consolidated impeachment complaints against Duterte are reportedly eager to re-file the case once the one-year ban rule lapses in February. They are considering using testimony from Ramil Madriaga, an alleged former civil intelligence agent of Duterte, as a basis for a new impeachment complaint. Madriaga has claimed in an affidavit that he acted as Duterte's 'bagman' and alleged that her campaign funds for the May 2022 national elections were sourced from drug lords and Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs).

In July 2025, the Supreme Court unanimously ruled that the Duterte impeachment was invalid. However, when asked about the characterization of the ongoing case as a 'failed impeachment,' Castro clarified that the matter is still pending before the Supreme Court, stating, 'We cannot say this is a failed impeachment. There is still an ongoing case before the Supreme Court.'
