PCG Eases Travel Restrictions for Smaller Vessels in Surigao Norte

Manila: The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Station Surigao del Norte has downgraded the temporary travel suspension for sea vessels, changing the restriction from vessels of 35 gross tonnage (GT) to those of 15 GT and below. This development occurred on Saturday morning following a slight improvement in weather conditions in the area.

According to Philippines News Agency, the PCG has urged vessels that are permitted to sail to maintain heightened vigilance. They are advised to carefully assess the prevailing weather and sea conditions, and to implement necessary safety measures both prior to departure and during navigation.

Similar advisories have been issued by the Coast Guard Stations in Siargao and Dinagat Islands, also downgrading the temporary travel suspension for vessels from 35 GT to 15 GT. These measures are in response to the ongoing weather conditions affecting the region.

In its 5 a.m. bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported that a gale warning remains in effect over the northern and eastern seaboards of Northern Luzon. The agency noted that rough seas with wave heights of up to 3 meters continue to affect Dinagat Islands, Siargao and Bucas Grande Islands, and Surigao del Sur.
