PCG Evacuates 104 Persons, Clears Flood-Hit Areas in Batangas, Mindoro

Batangas: The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) evacuated 104 individuals and conducted clearing operations in flood-affected communities in Batangas and Oriental Mindoro amid the continuing effects of the enhanced southwest monsoon or 'habagat.'

According to Philippines News Agency, the PCG immediately carried out evacuation, pumping, clearing, and rescue operations in Lian, Lemery, and San Luis in Batangas, as well as in Puerto Galera and Calapan City in Oriental Mindoro. In Lian town, 104 individuals from flood-prone areas were safely evacuated, while floodwater, debris, and other obstructions were cleared from roads and waterways in other affected areas to reduce the threat of flooding and keep residents safe.

In San Luis town, PCG Sub-Station Lemery coordinated with the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) to conduct a clearing and debris removal operation in Barangay Poblacion, Purok 6 on Tuesday. The team found a fallen tree and accumulated debris obstructing a waterway and drainage canal, causing muddy rainwater to accumulate and posing a flooding risk to nearby residential areas. The PCG immediately removed the fallen branches and debris to restore the flow of water and mitigate the risk of flooding.

The PCG Sub-Station continues to coordinate with concerned agencies and barangay officials and monitor the area for further incidents within its area of responsibility.

Meanwhile, PCG Sub-Station Mabini also responded to a sailing yacht that ran aground off the waters of Barangay San Teodoro in Mabini, Batangas on Monday. The yacht, identified as "Anastacia," drifted toward the shoreline after its mooring line broke due to strong waves. An initial assessment showed no visible hull damage, leakage, oil sheen, or other signs of marine pollution.

The PCG Sub-Station coordinated with the vessel owner, local authorities, and other concerned stakeholders to address the situation, with the Philippine National Police Maritime Group and PCG Station Batangas extending assistance in support of the planned refloating operation. The PCG said it will continue to monitor the situation and assist in resolving the incident during favorable high tide conditions.
