Manila: The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) evacuated 561,528 individuals and 161,527 families from six regions as of Sunday morning ahead of Super Typhoon Pepito (Man-yi). According to Philippines News Agency, the evacuations were conducted by approximately 6,790 personnel as part of the PCG's monitoring activities in the Bicol, Southern Tagalog, Northwestern Luzon, Northeastern Luzon, National Capital Region (NCR), and Eastern Visayas regions. The PCG Command has deployed seven vessels and 613 land mobility and surface vehicles to support the national government's humanitarian assistance and disaster response operations. PCG Commandant Admiral Ronnie Gil Gavan has ordered the full mobilization of relief efforts for communities impacted by the super typhoon. The PCG Civil Relations Service (CGCRS) has encouraged the public to donate non-perishable items such as bottled water, noodles, canned goods, alcohol, bath and laundry soap, diapers, medicines, dental hygiene kits, 3-in-1 coffee, rice, biscuits, face mas ks, and blankets. These in-kind donations can be delivered to the CGCRS headquarters at Coast Guard Base Farola, Muelle Dele Industria Compound, Binondo, Manila. The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported in its 2 p.m. severe weather bulletin that Pepito was last observed over the coastal waters of Baler, Aurora, with maximum sustained winds of 185 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 230 kph. The typhoon is moving northwest at 20 kph and is expected to make landfall in the vicinity of Aurora between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Sunday. Pepito is anticipated to exit the Luzon landmass by Sunday night or early Monday morning, according to PAGASA.
