Manila: The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) is set to inspect a vessel operating in Manila Bay following reports of irregularities. This action comes after the vessel was previously apprehended for safety-related violations, leading to appropriate enforcement measures.
According to Philippines News Agency, PCG spokesperson Capt. Noemie Cayabyab announced that PCG Commandant Admiral Ronnie Gil Gavan has tasked the PCG National Capital Region - Central Luzon with the inspection. Cayabyab emphasized that if violations persist and the vessel was allowed to sail despite these issues, administrative sanctions will be applied to all involved PCG personnel.
This decision aligns with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s directive and reflects the PCG's dedication to enforcing maritime laws, ensuring environmental protection, and maintaining maritime safety in Philippine waters.
Additionally, the PCG has heightened its alertness due to the increased activity of Mayon Volcano, which has been raised to Alert Level 3, indicating a potential for hazardous eruptions. In response, PCG Bicol has implemented disaster preparedness measures, especially for coastal and island communities at risk from volcanic activities. PCG Albay is also actively monitoring the volcano for sudden eruptive events.
Cayabyab further noted that Deployable Response Groups in PCG Bicol are on standby to support evacuation operations and assist in interagency response efforts.
