Manila: The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) is readying deployable response groups (DRGs) to provide immediate response to any untoward incidents during the rainy season. The PCG's preparations are in line with President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr.'s directive to provide fast and reliable public service to the public during the rainy season.
According to Philippines News Agency, PCG Commandant Adm. Ronnie Gil Gavan stated that these DRGs are tasked to assist local government units (LGUs) in preemptive evacuation and rescue operations caused by torrential rains. He emphasized the readiness of the PCG search and rescue (SAR) assets to ensure quick response to floods or any incidents due to the rains.
Gavan assured the public that PCG personnel undergo regular disaster response and SAR training to ensure the safety of the public in their areas of responsibility. He highlighted that PCG personnel have intensified patrols to remind fishers to remain alert to the latest weather reports and advised fisherfolk to suspend fishing activities when there is a tropical cyclone wind signal.
In addition, the PCG continues its inspection of ships and other maritime vessels as well as their crew to ensure safety at sea.
