Sarangani: The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) on Tuesday rescued six crew members of a Philippine-flagged tugboat that collided with a bulk carrier in the waters off Maasim, Sarangani province.
According to Philippines News Agency, the incident involved the tugboat M/TUG Sadong 33 and the Panamanian-flagged vessel MV Universe Kiza, which collided at approximately 4:20 a.m. A search-and-rescue team and three floating assets were promptly deployed to the collision site. Among the eight crew members of M/TUG Sadong 33, six were rescued and reported to be in good physical condition.
The PCG confirmed the recovery of the body of M/TUG Sadong 33's captain from the waters where the incident occurred. Additionally, the search-and-rescue team is actively searching for the last missing crew member.
An oil spill test conducted at the collision site showed no signs of contamination. The PCG is continuing its investigation into the collision.
