PCG to Issue Daily Reports on Illegal CCG Presence in WPS: Spox

Manila: The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has announced its intention to monitor the persistent presence of China Coast Guard (CCG) vessels in the waters off Zambales and highlight their unauthorized presence in the area. This move is part of a broader effort to address the ongoing maritime disputes in the West Philippine Sea (WPS).

According to Philippines News Agency, PCG spokesperson for the WPS, Commodore Jay Tarriela, noted during a PTV interview on Tuesday that there will be consistent updates on Chinese maritime activities. The initiative aims to inform the Filipino public and send a message to the Chinese government that the Philippines is resolute and will not permit the normalization of China's unlawful presence in Zambales waters.

Commodore Tarriela emphasized that the PCG will maintain a peaceful and professional stance despite repeated provocations and aggressive actions by the CCG. This approach aligns with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s directive to avoid escalation and ensure that the Philippines does not bear the blame for any potential conflicts.

The PCG's commitment to its mandate was underscored by Commodore Tarriela, who reiterated the agency's focus on challenging the illegal occupancy of the CCG in the region. The situation escalated on Monday when the PCG vessel BRP Cabra responded to a distress call from the Filipino fishing boat F/B El Kapitan. Despite the urgency, CCG vessel 3304 shadowed BRP Cabra, obstructing efforts to assist a fisherman who tragically passed away offshore.
