Manila: HD Hyundai marked a major milestone in its investment commitment in the Philippines with the launch of the Orion Jade, the first vessel constructed at its Subic shipyard and the first ship built by HD Hyundai Heavy Industries Philippines (HHIP). The Orion Jade, the first of a four-vessel order, marks the official start of HD Hyundai's full-scale shipbuilding operations in Subic. Measuring 250 meters in length, 42 meters in breadth, and 21 meters in depth, the vessel showcases the shipbuilding capabilities of HD Hyundai's Subic facility.

According to Philippines News Agency, the launch of the Orion Jade is significant for HHIP. HHIP president Im Dae Jun expressed appreciation to various partners and supporters, emphasizing the importance of the event in the company's ongoing journey. The launch is viewed as a testament to the collaborative efforts between HD Hyundai and the Philippine authorities, including the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority.

Investment czar and Finance Secretary Frederick Go highlighted the vessel's launch as proof of the government's successful efforts to attract strategic investments, which are now materializing into projects that benefit the economy. Secretary Go noted that HD Hyundai's investment is significantly expanding employment opportunities, with nearly 4,000 jobs already created and expectations for this number to double.

HD Hyundai is also collaborating with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) to enhance the skills of the workforce supporting the shipbuilding industry. This partnership focuses on aligning technical education with industry standards to equip Filipino workers with the necessary skills for the growing sector.

The construction of the vessels began in September 2025, marked by a steel-cutting ceremony led by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., underscoring HD Hyundai's commitment to strengthening the Philippines' shipbuilding industry.
