PH Army to Acquire 100 Rounds of Howitzer Ammo from Israel

Manila: The Philippine Army (PA) will be acquiring 100 rounds of high explosive (HE) 155mm precision-guided munitions (PGM) to arm its howitzer platforms having the same caliber. This acquisition marks a significant enhancement in the artillery capabilities of the PA.

According to Philippines News Agency, the PA has allocated PHP248,190,000 for the acquisition of these PGMs. Israel's Elbit Systems Land Ltd. emerged as the winning proponent for the contract, with the Notice of Award being issued on August 11 and subsequently posted on the PA's website late last week.

PGMs are advanced weapon systems that integrate sophisticated guidance and control technologies. These munitions are designed to be used by the PA's newly acquired ATMOS 2000 self-propelled howitzer systems, as well as the M-71 Soltam towed howitzer system currently in service.

Elbit Systems Land Ltd. is tasked with delivering these munitions within 540 days upon receipt of the Notice to Proceed. The acquisition project for the 155mm PGMs initiated in the first quarter of the previous year, reflecting the PA's ongoing efforts to modernize and enhance its military capabilities.
