Manila: The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Thursday expressed "grave concern" over the escalation and worsening humanitarian situation in Lebanon after Israel mounted deadly airstrikes in central Beirut on Wednesday, killing over 200.

According to Philippines News Agency, the agency called on all parties to end hostilities and allow diplomatic efforts aimed at resolving the conflict in the wider Middle East to proceed. The DFA emphasized the need for the full implementation of the ceasefire agreement pursuant to UN (United Nations) Security Council Resolution 1701 and urged all parties to fully abide by international humanitarian law. This includes the protection of civilians and UN personnel, including humanitarian, health, and media workers.

Israel carried out a wave of airstrikes across Lebanon on April 8, hours after the United States and Iran announced a two-week ceasefire to pave the way for an eventual peace deal. Israeli forces reported that over 100 Hezbollah sites in Beirut, Beqaa, and southern Lebanon were targeted, and that the strikes would continue 'as long as Hezbollah continues to threaten' their civilians.

Local reports citing the Lebanese Civil Defense indicated that the death toll has so far reached 254, with over 800 people estimated to be wounded from the barrage.
