PH ‘Deeply Concerned’ as US-Iran Ceasefire Ends

Manila: The Philippines, through the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), on Saturday expressed deep concern over the developments in the Iran-United States conflict after the latter declared their ceasefire over. In a statement, the DFA called on all parties to return to the path of diplomacy and push for a lasting solution to the hostilities.

According to Philippines News Agency, Foreign Affairs spokesperson Analyn Ratonel emphasized the urgency of the situation by stating, 'The Philippines is deeply concerned about the recent developments that have taken place between the US and Iran which threaten efforts towards a final peace agreement.' Ratonel urged all involved parties to practice restraint and pursue diplomatic resolutions to achieve a peaceful outcome.

As of this writing, Ratonel confirmed there are no reported Filipino casualties amid the escalating tensions in the Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz. The statement comes in the wake of renewed hostilities following the end of the US-Iran ceasefire.

US President Donald Trump indicated that while negotiations between the two sides will continue, the ceasefire has officially concluded. This announcement followed a series of US strikes on more than 80 Iranian targets near the Strait of Hormuz. The military action was a response to what the US described as 'unwarranted, dangerous' Iranian attacks on three commercial vessels in the strategic shipping area.
