PH Initiates First Climate Report to Enhance Transparency Efforts.

Manila: The Climate Change Commission (CCC) is intensifying its efforts to enhance climate transparency as it undertakes the preparation of the Philippines' inaugural Biennial Transparency Report (BTR). In a recent statement, CCC Vice Chair Robert Borje emphasized the agency's collaboration with the Capacity Building Initiatives on Transparency - Global Support Programme (CBIT-GSP) to organize writeshops designed to bolster institutional capacity. According to Philippines News Agency, Borje remarked, "This training is crucial for strengthening key agencies' ability to meet requirements under the Enhanced Transparency Framework." The BTR aims to highlight the nation's advancements in executing its Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) and addressing the ongoing climate crisis. This report also represents a significant commitment under the Paris Agreement, which mandates developing countries to submit their initial BTR by December 31, 2024. Several key government agencies, including the Departments of Ene rgy (DOE), Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), and Transportation (DOTr), have engaged in workshops focusing on greenhouse gas (GHG) inventories, Common Reporting Tables (CRTs), and identifying data gaps. The CCC's BTR Technical Working Group will maintain coordination with these agencies to ensure the report's timely submission.
