PH Manufacturing Rebounds in June 2025 with Stronger Business Expansion

Manila: The Philippines' production sector showed signs of recovery in June 2025, following a period of slowdown in the preceding month, as stronger expansion was observed in new business activities.

According to Philippines News Agency, the Philippines Manufacturing PMI (Purchasing Managers' Index) rose to 50.7 percent from 50.1 percent in May, indicating a modest yet positive improvement in the health of the country's manufacturing sector.

An index reading above 50 is indicative of expansion, whereas a level below 50 suggests contraction. This uptick in the PMI highlights an improved demand landscape and renewed growth in production requirements, prompting firms to enhance their purchasing activities significantly. Additionally, data from June marked a return to job creation, with payroll numbers increasing for the first time in four months.

The report further noted that while the June figures were 'slightly stronger' than those of the previous month, they remained below the long-term survey average. Anecdotal evidence pointed to successful customer acquisitions, improved underlying demand trends, and effective promotional efforts as key contributors to the latest uptick.

S and P Global Market Intelligence economist Maryam Baluch commented that although the first half of the manufacturing sector's performance remained relatively subdued, the PMI concealed certain areas of strength, particularly in employment gains. She remarked that the expansion in orders was still moderate, partly due to ongoing supply-side challenges.

"The upcoming months will be crucial in determining whether the sector can return to the growth rates observed in much of last year," Baluch stated. She added that lower inflationary pressures and sustained demand could aid Filipino manufacturers in enhancing pricing power. However, historically muted business confidence suggests a more subdued trajectory for the year ahead.

The Marcos administration has been actively encouraging foreign investors to consider the Philippines as a prime location for smart and sustainable manufacturing, promoting the country as an ideal business opportunity.
