PH Recognized Globally Due to OFWs’ Talent and Kindness, Says Marcos

Quezon city: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. recently lauded overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) for their pivotal role in enhancing the global image of the Philippines through their exceptional talent and admirable character. In his 4th State of the Nation Address (SONA), delivered at the Batasang Pambansa complex, Marcos emphasized that the international community holds the Philippines in high regard due to its respectful and fair dealings with other nations.

According to Philippines News Agency, President Marcos highlighted the nation's adherence to international agreements and compliance with global laws and regulations. He expressed gratitude for the OFWs, stating, "We are grateful to our brave OFWs. Because of them, the talent, kindness, and heart of the Filipino people are demonstrated in all corners of the world."

Marcos also addressed the dangers and challenges that Filipino migrant workers face, referencing the recent incident involving Filipino seafarers who were rescued after their cargo vessel was attacked by Houthi rebels and sank in the Red Sea. He remarked on the perilous nature of their work, emphasizing the nation's commitment to supporting Filipinos abroad, especially those in distress.

The number of OFWs has grown significantly, reaching 2.16 million in 2023, a 9.8 percent increase from 1.96 million in 2022. Furthermore, cash remittances from overseas Filipinos rose by 4 percent, amounting to USD2.66 billion in April compared to USD2.56 billion during the same period last year, as reported by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas.
