Quezon City: The Philippines takes on Indonesia in the Alas Pilipinas Invitationals starting Tuesday at Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City. Alas Pilipinas meets Indonesia club Jakarta Bhayangkara Presisi at 7:30 p.m. after the match between Hyundai Capital Skywalkers of South Korea and Thailand's national team at 4 p.m.
According to Philippines News Agency, the Invitationals serve as a crucial platform for Alas Pilipinas to measure their readiness for the 32-nation FIVB Volleyball Men's World Championship (MWCH). The MWCH will be hosted by the Philippines from September 12 to 28 at the Araneta and Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
The schedule continues with Thailand facing Jakarta on Wednesday at 4 p.m., followed by a match between Alas Pilipinas and Hyundai at 7:30 p.m. Thursday's matches will see Jakarta against Hyundai at 4 p.m. and Alas Pilipinas squaring off against Thailand at 7:30 p.m.
"This Invitationals is important for us. It's very good for us to compete against better teams. We have to be prepared for the men's worlds," Alas Pilipinas coach Angiolino Frigoni remarked during Monday's press conference in Cubao, QC. Philippine National Volleyball Federation president Ramon Suzara expressed gratitude to the participating teams, stating, "I would like to thank the three teams for accepting the invitation to play in the Alas Pilipinas Invitationals, which is a test for our national players."
