Nueva ecija: This year's iteration of the "Salaknib" joint military exercises between Filipino and American troops will formally conclude on Monday next week in Nueva Ecija province. In an advisory on Wednesday, the Philippine Army (PA) said closing ceremonies will take place at the headquarters of the 7th Infantry Division in Palayan City.
According to Philippines News Agency, the "Salaknib" exercises serve as a symbol of enduring cooperation, mutual commitment, and shared training objectives aimed at strengthening regional security and interoperability among participating forces. The Army noted that the closing ceremony will highlight the achievements of the joint exercises and showcase the key capabilities developed by the participants.
"Salaknib," which means "shield" in Ilocano, reflects the historical bond between the two nations dating back to World War II, when Filipino and American troops fought side by side to defend freedom and democracy. The exercises are conducted in two phases each year. Phase 1 took place from March 24 to April 11 and was the 10th iteration of the annual military maneuvers between Filipino and American troops. Phase 2 started on May 19 and will last until July 7.
