Manila: The Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth) has announced the availability of benefit packages designed to help alleviate the financial burden of treating common wet season illnesses. This announcement comes as weather conditions worsen, with the low-pressure area east of Aurora province developing into a tropical depression named Dante, potentially enhancing the southwest monsoon or "habagat."
According to Philippines News Agency, PhilHealth issued a public advisory urging Filipinos to remain vigilant against W.I.L.D. diseases-water and food-borne illnesses, influenza-like illness, leptospirosis, and dengue. These illnesses often experience an increase in cases during the rainy months due to flooding and prolonged exposure to contaminated water.
To support its members and their families, PhilHealth offers specific coverage for hospitalizations caused by these illnesses. The coverage includes up to PHP19,500 for dengue (with or without warning signs), up to PHP47,000 for severe dengue hemorrhagic fever, up to PHP21,450 for leptospirosis (moderate to severe), up to PHP11,300 for hepatitis A, and up to PHP11,700 for acute gastroenteritis.
PhilHealth advises individuals experiencing symptoms such as fever, body aches, vomiting, or diarrhea to consult a doctor immediately. The state insurer emphasized that early detection and treatment can prevent complications and reduce hospital stays.
