Manila: The Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) has announced that benefits for the treatment of influenza and similar illnesses are fully covered under its existing benefit packages. This assurance comes amid efforts to promote early consultation and preventive healthcare.
According to Philippines News Agency, PhilHealth president and chief executive officer Edwin Mercado emphasized the importance of early consultation for members experiencing flu-like symptoms. He encouraged them to visit their assigned YAKAP (Your Advanced and Kind Access to Primary Care) Clinics for immediate consultation. The PhilHealth YAKAP benefit includes coverage for consultation fees, essential medicines, and laboratory tests as recommended by primary care physicians. This initiative aligns with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s vision of building a healthy and resilient nation.
Mercado urged members to make use of their PhilHealth YAKAP benefits without delay and to practice preventive measures such as frequent hand washing, covering the mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing, and avoiding crowded places if feeling unwell.
PhilHealth also advised members to register and choose their preferred YAKAP Clinic through the eGovPH app, the PhilHealth member portal, or by visiting the nearest PhilHealth Local Health Insurance Office. The state health insurer reassured members of coverage even if they develop severe symptoms or require hospital care. Those classified as emergent or critical in emergency rooms are covered under the Outpatient Emergency Care Benefit package.
For patients requiring hospitalization due to influenza, PhilHealth offers a case rate package worth PHP12,870. Additional benefit packages are available for those developing complications such as pneumonia. The state insurer remains committed to providing comprehensive healthcare protection, ensuring Filipinos receive timely and affordable treatment for common illnesses like influenza.
