Dumaguete city: The Philippine Army in Negros Oriental will uphold constitutional authority, support President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., and oppose destabilization efforts against the government, an official said Wednesday. Brig. Gen. Jason Jumawan, commander of the Army's 302nd Infantry Brigade in Tanjay City, Negros Oriental, confirmed this stance during a press conference, emphasizing the military's commitment to the nation's stability.

According to Philippines News Agency, Brig. Gen. Jumawan remarked that the Philippine Army will not participate in any unconstitutional efforts to destabilize the government. He recalled the coup d'©tat in 1987 and the subsequent military revolts, noting that these events resulted in chaos and economic decline, with no positive outcomes and job losses for many participants.

Jumawan expressed his support for Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro's statement on strengthening the institution, highlighting that a military uprising is not a solution to the nation's current problems. He mentioned that he has engaged in discussions with military retirees, some of whom support the call for an uprising. However, he advised them against such actions, warning that they would not succeed without military backing.

He assured that the army is prepared to respond to any incidents and suppress any rebellion effectively if called upon.
