Philippine Navy Conducts Live Missile Firing Exercises as Part of Training Initiative

Manila: The Philippine Navy (PN) announced on Tuesday that the ongoing series of live missile firing exercises is part of an initiative to familiarize naval personnel with their newly acquired missile platforms. These exercises aim to enhance the operational capabilities of the Navy by providing hands-on experience in missile operations.

According to Philippines News Agency, PN spokesperson Capt. Benjo Negranza emphasized the importance of training in a press briefing at Camp Aguinaldo. "We need to train so our personnel will know firsthand on firing these missiles, which are new capabilities," Negranza stated. The exercises are scheduled to take place during the "Balikatan" exercise this April and involve three different missile systems.

PN Chief, Vice Admiral Jose Ma. Ambrosio Padilla, previously revealed that the Navy plans to conduct live-fire exercises using Spike-NLOS surface-to-surface missiles mounted on Acero-class missile boats. Additionally, the exercises will include the LIG Nex 1 SSM "sea-skimming" surface-to-surface anti-ship cruise missiles and MBDA Mistral surface-to-air missiles, both of which are equipped on the Navy's Jose Rizal-class guided missile frigates.

Negranza further explained the necessity of familiarizing personnel with these advanced capabilities and technologies. When questioned about the sufficiency of the Navy's missile stock for the exercises, Negranza assured that operational security considerations are in place and that the quantities have been factored into planning.
