Makati City:The Philippines is set to introduce a unique postal feature as part of its hosting of the 49th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits this November. This initiative includes the traditional snail mail and an ASEAN post stamp for visitors, specifically aimed at foreign delegates wishing to send a piece of the Philippines to their home countries.
According to Philippines News Agency, the stamp, which features the Philippine ASEAN chairship logo, was unveiled alongside the official Philippine tourism postcards during a signing ceremony of a memorandum of agreement between the Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost) and the Department of Tourism (DOT) in Makati City on Wednesday.
Under this new partnership, PHLPost will offer its postal services to both local and international delegates at the ASEAN International Media Center. Delegates will have the opportunity to send postcards, featuring Philippine stamps, to destinations worldwide.
DOT Secretary Dita Angara-Mathay expressed that through this initiative, the Philippines aims to connect with the world by offering delegates the chance to utilize postcards and postal services at the International Media Center and the World Trade Center. She emphasized that these postcards and stamps are invitations to share the beauty of the Philippines' destinations, along with its stories, traditions, and cultural identity.
PHLPost CEO and Postmaster Maximo Sta. Maria III highlighted the initiative as a means to reintroduce the importance of postal services in today's digital age. He noted that postcards and stamps, while seemingly simple, carry significant meaning by capturing experiences and fostering connections among people, places, and cultures. He added that they provide international guests with tangible mementos of their time in the Philippines.
The Philippines will host the ASEAN Leaders' Summit from November 15 to 17.
