Manila: Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. has appointed Brig. Gen. Rex Arvin Malimban as the new director of the PNP's Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group (IMEG) in an acting capacity. Malimban, who previously served as the Special Action Forces (SAF) Deputy Director for Administration, takes over from Brig. Gen. Bonard Briton. Briton will now serve in the Personnel Holding and Accounting Unit.
According to Philippines News Agency, the IMEG is a crucial unit within the PNP tasked with addressing misconduct among police officers, while the Internal Affairs Service handles the initiation of administrative charges. The appointment of Malimban is expected to bolster the IMEG's efforts in monitoring integrity within the force.
In related developments, Malimban's position at the SAF will be filled by Brig. Gen. Jonathan Calixto, who is currently the Deputy Director for Administration of the Anti-Kidnapping Group. Calixto's appointment is also in an acting capacity. The SAF serves as the PNP's rapid deployment force, tackling scenarios involving counter-terrorism, counterinsurgency, hostage rescue, search and rescue, civil disturbance management, and other specialized operations.
