Las Piñas: The Philippine National Police (PNP) confirmed that more than PHP300 million in cash, confiscated during operations against Philippine offshore gaming operator (POGO) hubs in Las Piñas City and Pampanga, remains secure and accounted for. According to Philippines News Agency, PNP spokesperson and information chief Brig. Gen. Jean Fajardo addressed allegations suggesting that the seized funds were unaccounted for. During a press briefing at Camp Crame, Fajardo assured the public that the funds are under police custody and are being heavily guarded. She emphasized the PNP's readiness to comply with any court directives regarding the disposition of the seized money. "There is no truth to the malicious reports that the money is missing," Fajardo stated. She clarified that the funds are considered evidence in ongoing cases and will be handled as per court orders. Whether directed to turn the money over to the Department of Justice or return it, the PNP is prepared to comply. Fajardo suggested that mis information about the seized funds might be intended to confuse the public regarding the PNP's anti-illegal POGO operations, notably a recent operation in Malate, Manila. The PNP reported that PHP187.82 million was seized from the Clark Freeport POGO hub in May last year, and PHP117.18 million from a Las Piñas City hub in July of the same year. The operation involving Vertex Technologies in Malate last month drew controversy amid various allegations against police conduct, resulting in the temporary administrative relief of key police officials to enable an impartial investigation.
