Muntinlupa city: Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Gen. Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr. on Friday lauded three Muntinlupa City police officers for putting their lives on the line to stop an armed robbery suspect and protect the public.

According to Philippines News Agency, Nartatez commended Master Sgt. Alvin Cordero, Staff Sgt. Lloyd Francisco, and Patrolman John Lee Macaraeg for their actions during the Aug. 11 incident along East Service Road in Barangay Sucat. The officers were recognized for their courage, composure, and commitment to public safety. Nartatez reminded all police personnel to exercise sound judgment and observe proper procedures while ensuring self-protection when dealing with armed and dangerous suspects.

The incident unfolded when the three officers responded to a robbery report in the area. Staff Sgt. Francisco pursued the suspect toward a footbridge, repeatedly urging him to surrender. During the confrontation, the suspect allegedly pointed a firearm at Francisco, leading to a struggle in which a gun went off, hitting the suspect in the neck.

The Barangay Sucat rescue team transported the suspect to a hospital. Police recovered an unlicensed .45-caliber Colt pistol, a magazine, three live rounds of ammunition, and the robbery victim's cellphone and wallet from the suspect. The victim identified the suspect as the individual who took his belongings.

Following the incident, the suspect underwent inquest proceedings and faces charges for robbery, illegal possession of firearms, and direct assault. Nartatez emphasized that the event serves as a reminder of the risks police officers face while performing their duties.

He reiterated the commitment of police officers to protect lives, maintain peace, and ensure community safety. The PNP chief also encouraged the public to report crimes through 911 and cooperate with responding authorities.
