Manila: The Philippine National Police (PNP) will look into the viral video showing two police officers' alleged unprofessional behavior toward a civilian motorist in Manila. The Manila Police District (MPD) and National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) were directed to conduct a prompt parallel administrative investigation into the incident, in coordination with the National Police Commission (NAPOLCOM).

According to Philippines News Agency, PNP chief Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. stated that any form of misconduct or overstepping of authority within the police ranks will not be tolerated. He emphasized the importance of upholding discipline and maintaining public trust, urging all police personnel to act with integrity and professionalism.

The incident, captured by a dashcam, showed two MPD officers changing lanes and cutting off a Toyota Vios on Taft Avenue, near the Philippine General Hospital. The motorist involved reported that the officers became angry after he honked at them. The footage further revealed the patrol car stopping in front of the driver at a green light, then speeding away while the light was red.

Initially, the officers apologized, citing mechanical trouble. However, they later admitted to unprofessional conduct and issued public apologies. They explained that their actions were part of an attempt to overtake another vehicle to respond to someone needing police assistance, and acknowledged that the driver may have perceived their actions as cutting him off.

The two officers involved have been relieved of their posts as the investigation proceeds.
