PNP-HPG Seizes PHP102-M Worth of Suspected Shabu at Samar Checkpoint

Catbalogan City: The Philippine National Police - Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG) on Wednesday seized around 15 kilograms of suspected shabu, estimated to be worth PHP102 million, from an Asia utility vehicle (AUV) during a checkpoint operation in Catbalogan City, Samar.

According to Philippines News Agency, during a press briefing at Camp Crame, PNP-HPG spokesperson Lt. Nadame Malang reported that the driver of the AUV, identified as Topher, displayed signs of unease when pulled over at a checkpoint along Maharlika Highway in Barangay Mahayag at 11:55 a.m. The police observed packages in the back seat, which were suspected to contain shabu.

Lt. Malang explained that the packages appeared to contain 15 kilograms of the illegal substance. When questioned, the driver admitted to transporting contraband. The police are currently investigating the origins and intended destination of the drugs.

He further stated that the police are awaiting forensic verification to confirm whether the substance is indeed shabu, with plans to turn over the evidence for further examination.

HPG Chief Brig. Gen. Eleazar P. Matta praised the officers involved in the operation for their vigilance and commitment. He highlighted that such proactive and intelligence-driven road safety enforcement efforts are essential in disrupting the illegal drug trade along highways.

The driver is now detained at a local PNP facility and is expected to face charges under the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act.
