Cebu: Police units in Cebu and nearby areas have been ordered to carry out a strategic and well-coordinated deployment of personnel for the Sinulog Festival this month. Police units were also directed to closely coordinate with local government units (LGUs) and other concerned agencies to maintain order and ensure the smooth conduct of festival-related activities.
According to Philippines News Agency, acting Philippine National Police chief Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and order during the festival. While the police forces in Metro Manila are engaged in implementing security measures for the Feast of Black Nazarene, similar measures are being ensured for the Sinulog Festival in Cebu, another significant religious event.
Nartatez further stated that the PNP has not identified any specific threats related to the festivities but assured that police units will remain on heightened alert throughout the celebration. He mentioned that security measures are already in place and that real-time security adjustments will be made by ground commanders as necessary.
Earlier, the Cebu City government provided assurance to the public regarding the comprehensive security and safety measures implemented for both the cultural events of the Sinulog Festival and the religious activities for the Feast of the Se±or Santo Ni±o on Jan. 18. The feast will feature a grand parade, beginning with a holy Mass to be presided over by Archbishop Emeritus Jose Palma.
