PNP Lauds Off-Duty Officer for Capturing Antipolo Hit-and-Run Suspect

Antipolo city: The Philippine National Police (PNP) praised a brave police officer for stepping in to help apprehend an alleged hit-and-run suspect in Antipolo City despite being off duty.

According to Philippines News Agency, PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr. highlighted Executive M/Sgt. Andy Evangelista's quick response as an example of the commitment expected from police personnel to protect the public even outside their regular duty hours. "I commend PEMS Andy Evangelista for responding to the incident and helping apprehend the suspect even while off duty. His actions show his commitment to public safety and his duty as a police officer," Nartatez stated.

Evangelista pursued the suspect, identified as an employee of the Land Transportation Office - Quezon City District Office, following a road crash on August 14. The suspect was allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol when his vehicle hit pedestrians before fleeing the scene.

Nartatez also welcomed remarks from National Police Commission chief Rafael Vicente Calinisan, who expressed intentions to work on a possible spot promotion for Evangelista. Meanwhile, the PNP chief emphasized that the incident should serve as a reminder to police personnel about their responsibility to uphold public safety while adhering to established procedures.

"Police officers remain committed to protecting the public even outside their regular duty hours. We remind our personnel to always act within the law and established police procedures while ensuring their own safety and that of the public," he added.
