PNP Launches Extensive Security Plan for Holy Week and Summer Travel

Manila: The Philippine National Police (PNP) has unveiled a comprehensive security initiative aimed at managing the anticipated surge of travelers during Holy Week and the summer months. This plan, known as 'Oplan Ligtas SumVac 2026,' will be operational from March 29 to May 31, with a focus on ensuring public safety and protecting travelers during this busy period.

According to Philippines News Agency, the PNP's operation will encompass several major holidays and events, such as Philippine Veterans Week, Araw ng Kagitingan, Holy Week, Labor Day, and Flores de Mayo. These occasions are expected to draw large numbers of travelers to provinces, tourist spots, and religious sites. PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. emphasized the police force's commitment to maintaining a secure and orderly travel experience for the public.

The PNP plans to deploy personnel and resources nationwide, strategically positioning them along highways, transport hubs, and tourist destinations. The Highway Patrol Group will be active on major roads and bus terminals, while Police Regional Offices will enhance mobile patrols and visibility in transport terminals and other public areas. Additionally, Motorist Assistance Centers and Police Assistance Desks will be set up in key locations to support travelers.

In a separate update, the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) announced a significant 22.64-percent reduction in crime incidents for the first two months of 2026 compared to the same period the previous year. The QCPD recorded 246 focus crime incidents, down from 318, with notable declines in theft and motorcycle carnapping. Their Crime Solution Efficiency also improved to 81.30 percent.
