Cebu city: The Philippine National Police (PNP) will investigate and pursue individuals responsible for the alleged death threat against Cebu Governor Pam Baricuatro. The Police Regional Office-7 and the Cebu Police Provincial Office have been instructed to enhance intelligence monitoring following Baricuatro's revelation of an alleged PHP2.5 million bounty on her life.
According to Philippines News Agency, PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. stated that regional personnel have been mobilized to not only bolster security measures but also to identify and apprehend those behind the threat. Nartatez emphasized that similar security measures apply to all public officials facing harassment and threats while performing their duties.
Baricuatro recently disclosed intelligence reports indicating that a hired assassin from Mindanao has been tasked with executing her outside Cebu. In response, Nartatez has ordered the deployment of additional tactical security personnel to eliminate any gaps in the governor's security.
During a press briefing, PNP information chief and spokesperson Brig. Gen. Randulf Tua±o announced the deployment of 14 additional police security personnel to Governor Baricuatro. Originally, the governor was allowed two security personnel, but the PNP chief's directive has increased this to two teams of seven officers.
