Bicol: The Police Regional Office (PRO) 5 in Bicol has procured new phones for police stations across the region to enhance the implementation of the 5-minute response policy. This move aims to ensure that police officers are always prepared to respond quickly to emergencies and critical incidents.
According to Philippines News Agency, each phone is equipped with the Zello application, a push-to-talk communication app that acts like a digital walkie-talkie. This application allows for instant voice communication over cellular data or Wi-Fi, facilitating real-time coordination among personnel during emergencies.
Out of the 1,051 phones distributed, 750 are fully capable of running the Zello application smoothly, ensuring reliable connectivity for field units. Some phones will also serve as hotlines for police stations, enabling direct contact with the chief of police and on-duty officers. This setup aims to facilitate faster coordination, immediate deployment, and quicker resolution of crime incidents.
PRO-5 spokesperson, Lt. Col. Malu Calubaquib, emphasized the importance of this initiative in maintaining operational readiness and timely intervention. PRO-5 Director Brig. Gen. Nestor Babagay Jr. reiterated that the 5-minute response policy would continue as an active operational program. Ongoing simulation exercises will test and improve the system's efficiency, with the unit dedicated to providing efficient, proactive, and reliable police service grounded in proactive patrolling, enhanced community presence, and swift responses to calls for assistance.
