Manila: Three ranking police officials have been included in the latest reorganization in the Philippine National Police (PNP). In an order dated Dec. 2 and made public Tuesday, PNP chief Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil designated Brig. Gen. Jerry Protacio as the acting chief of the PNP Human Rights Affairs Office. Brig. Gen. Neri Vincent Ignacio was named officer in charge of the Directorate for Logistics, while Brig. Gen. Jericho Baldeo was designated as the deputy chief of the Directorate for Information and Communication Technology Management. Marbil earlier said the reshuffle is necessary to "preposition" officials who are fit for their next assignments. According to Philippines News Agency, the PNP chief also emphasized the commitment of the police force to protecting the people and upholding peace and order. In a separate statement, Marbil called for greater recognition of the bravery and dedication of the nation's police officers, emphasizing their selfless service despite the inherent dangers of their jobs. Marbil cited the recent Bonifacio Day protests in Manila as a reminder of the risks faced by police officers in the performance of their duties. At least eight police officers were hurt in the rally along Recto Avenue that turned violent as militant protesters attacked law enforcement personnel. "Being a policeman is often a thankless job. Every day, our officers put their lives on the line, enduring risks and sacrifices that frequently go unnoticed. Yet, despite these challenges, the sense of fulfillment derived from serving the people and upholding peace is immeasurable. This is the essence of public service that every police officer embraces," he said. Despite provocations, Marbil said the police exercised maximum tolerance, prioritizing safety and preventing the situation from escalating. "Our officers demonstrated professionalism and composure during the Mendiola rally, showcasing their commitment to peace and their ability to balance enforcement with restraint. This bravery and dedication deserv e national recognition," he added.
