Manila: The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Tuesday said it is strengthening community intelligence efforts to dismantle illegal gambling operations and hubs across the country.

According to Philippines News Agency, PNP Chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. emphasized that information from residents remains one of the most effective tools in identifying illegal gambling operations that persist in different parts of the country.

The PNP has maintained its anti-illegal gambling campaign through heightened police operations nationwide. In July, a total of 9,401 individuals were arrested, and more than PHP3.2 million worth of bet money and gambling paraphernalia were seized.

Gen. Nartatez noted that efforts are not solely concentrated in Metro Manila, with similar levels of aggressive operations conducted in municipalities and provinces, including remote areas.

He highlighted that illegal gambling is not just a law enforcement issue, as it also contributes to other crimes according to their data.

Gen. Nartatez stated that illegal gambling leads to other crimes such as domestic violence, theft, robbery, and even crimes against persons, which is why the PNP has been assertive in its campaign, as demonstrated by their monthly accomplishment reports.

He added that dismantling illegal gambling operations will also enhance peace and order in communities.
