PNP Supports Marcos’ Initiative to Combat Financial Crimes

Manila: The Philippine National Police (PNP) has expressed full support for President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s directive to government agencies to craft a comprehensive strategy to combat money laundering and terrorism financing. PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. stated that the force is committed to integrating its investigative powers with the Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC) to tackle organized crime groups involved in illegal activities such as drug trafficking, smuggling, and cybercrimes.

According to Philippines News Agency, President Marcos has issued Memorandum Circular 113, which directs government agencies to contribute to the development of the National Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism/Proliferation Financing Strategy for 2026-2030. The AMLC is tasked with providing technical and administrative support, setting timelines, and monitoring compliance by the concerned government bodies in drafting this strategy.

Gen. Nartatez emphasized that the PNP will enhance inter-agency cooperation, share data, and engage in joint operations to reinforce national efforts. The police force is also advancing its digital infrastructure and data analytics capabilities to detect suspicious financial transactions and cross-border alerts. Furthermore, specialized training in financial forensics and emerging trends in money laundering is being provided to officers in the Anti-Cybercrime Group and the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group.

The PNP plans to closely monitor high-risk sectors such as real estate, casinos, and import/export businesses. Additionally, the organization aims to strengthen international cooperation with foreign law enforcement agencies to track illicit funds flowing in and out of the Philippines.
