Zamboanga city: Policemen arrested the alleged gunman in a hot pursuit operation minutes after the fatal shooting of a barangay official early Wednesday in this city. Capt. Adzhar Omar, chief of the Zamboanga City Police Station 2 (ZCPS2), identified the suspect as Alvin Francisco, 36, the victim's son-in-law.

According to Philippines News Agency, Omar identified the victim as Warlito Salvador, 57, a councilor of Barangay Quiniput, this city. He died instantly from a gunshot wound to the head. Omar said the incident occurred around 2:10 a.m. Wednesday at Salvador's residence in Sitio Calanasan, Barangay Quiniput, just after a barrio disco celebrating the barangay's feast day.

Investigation revealed that the victim was inside his residence having a drinking session with a friend when the suspect arrived and allegedly shot the victim in the head with a handgun. The suspect fled but was arrested by responding policemen in a hot pursuit operation. He was detained at ZCPS2.

Police recovered an empty shell of a caliber .45 pistol at the crime scene. Omar said the investigation further revealed that the shooting stemmed from a personal grudge between the victim and the suspect, who had a heated altercation a few days before the killing.
