Tanay: The Philippine National Police-Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG) will intensify patrols and the enforcement of traffic rules and regulations along the Marilaque (Marikina-Rizal-Laguna-Quezon) Highway. PNP-HPG personnel made a surprise inspection at the highway in Tanay, Rizal Wednesday afternoon as part of measures to prevent fatal accidents in the area, which has become a popular hangout of motorcycle riders.
According to Philippines News Agency, HPG officer in charge Brig. Gen. Eleazar Matta stated that the inspection aimed at evaluating the deployment of HPG personnel, the Regional Mobile Force Battalion, the Tanay Municipal Police Office, and the Traffic Management Office of Tanay. During the inspection, Matta inspected the personnel and resources, emphasizing that the operation was to avoid any further accidents.
He also engaged with photographers in the Marilaque area, urging them to help raise awareness on road safety and law enforcement. "We will continue to intensify our efforts in working closely with the LGU and other partners to implement the law effectively," Matta said.
Earlier reports indicated that motorcycle riders have been turning portions of the highway into a racetrack to test their riding skills at high speed, which has led to accidents and even fatalities. A January 26 crash in Barangay Cuyambay, Tanay was the 13th mishap this year, according to reports. One of the two riders involved in the race, motovlogger John Louie Arguelles, died while spectators were injured.
