Antique: The Antique Provincial Police Office (APPO) has confiscated over PHP300,000 worth of assorted firecrackers being sold illegally, as well as an abandoned 'boga' (homemade cannon) in two municipalities. Maj. Mona Guia Me±ez, officer-in-charge of the provincial Police Community Affairs and Development Unit, said in an interview on Friday that police personnel from the Hamtic confiscated assorted firecrackers being sold illegally by retailers without a special business permit.

According to Philippines News Agency, there were also four 'boga' cannons that were recovered by the police in San Jose de Buenavista on December 28. The San Jose Municipal Police Station recovered the four improvised cannons after they received a report that minors were playing with them. The minors abandoned the cannons and fled as police approached.

Me±ez said they are now waiting for the Police Regional Office - Western Visayas for instructions on whether the mass destruction of the confiscated firecrackers will be held at the regional headquarters in Iloilo City or at the APPO. Meanwhile, Me±ez noted that there had been no indiscriminate firing of guns from police personnel nor the community during Christmas and New Year's Eve in the province. She emphasized that the Antique police personnel had been reminded about the one-strike policy of the Philippine National Police chief, and they were compliant with it.
