Power Line Down in 7 Surigao Barangays Due to ‘Crising’

Surigao city: Strong winds from Tropical Storm (TS) Crising toppled a power line tower connecting mainland Mindanao to Nonoc Island, leaving seven barangays in Surigao City without electricity on Friday afternoon.

According to Philippines News Agency, the Surigao del Norte Electric Cooperative (SURNECO) reported in its advisory that the C8 Structure tower was heavily damaged by gusty winds and rains from TS Crising, which continues to impact Surigao City.

Nonoc Island is situated between Surigao City and Dinagat Islands province, both currently affected by the storm.

The seven barangays on Nonoc Island experiencing the power outage are Aurora, Zaragoza, Lisondra, San Pedro, Cantiasay, Nonoc, and Talisay.

'Due to the prevailing unfavorable weather conditions, there will be delays in our operations to repair the tower, in consideration for the safety of our technical crew,' SURNECO stated.

The power cooperative assured affected residents that repairs would begin promptly once weather conditions improve.
