Manila: The provincial electric power subsidy (PEPS), a local initiative of Antique's provincial government, has provided relief to 105,215 households in the province.

According to Philippines News Agency, the household beneficiaries under the PEPS implementation receive a PHP500 subsidy, which is deducted from their monthly electric bill. Governor Paolo Everardo Javier announced this at a press conference on Wednesday, highlighting the collaboration with the Antique Electric Cooperative (Anteco) and the Aklan Electric Cooperative (Akelco) that ensures the automatic deduction of the subsidy from the electric bill.

Anteco is responsible for distributing power to 16 local government units in Antique, while Akelco serves the two northernmost towns of Pandan and Libertad. Governor Javier expressed his commitment to sustaining the PEPS initiative next year and potentially beyond, recognizing its significant benefits to the residents.

The PEPS is funded through the national wealth share of the province and implemented as per Provincial Ordinance 2025-418, which has been in effect since August 2025. This initiative, as reported by the Department of Energy, is the first of its kind in the country.
