General trias: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Monday urged beneficiaries of the government's Presidential Scholars Program to study diligently and prepare to take on the country's future, as he reaffirmed continued state support for education.

According to Philippines News Agency, during an orientation in General Trias City, Cavite, President Marcos emphasized the long-term value of education as a 'lasting wealth' that cannot be taken away. He encouraged the scholars by stating that good education is a significant asset they carry with them throughout life.

The President stated that education empowers young Filipinos to uplift not only themselves but also their families and communities. He reassured the scholars that their education is secure and invaluable, emphasizing that it cannot be taken, grabbed, or stolen from them.

The Presidential Scholars Program, which President Marcos highlighted, is funded through barangay-level allocations to expand access to education. Each barangay receives PHP200,000, with PHP100,000 dedicated to scholarships. Under this initiative, each scholar will receive PHP20,000 in assistance.

Marcos noted that the program is expected to benefit over 200,000 students nationwide, with approximately five scholars per barangay across the country's more than 42,000 barangays. In his message, he underscored the importance of readiness and encouraged the scholars to study hard in preparation for the future.

In General Trias alone, 33 barangays are set to receive financial assistance, supporting a total of 165 scholars, demonstrating the government's commitment to educational support and development.
