Manila: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. is heading in the right direction as he remains firm in efforts to eradicate corruption in government, OCTA Research fellow Guido David said Thursday. While David acknowledged that more needs to be done to curb corruption, he said many Filipinos appreciate Marcos' efforts to address the problem.
According to Philippines News Agency, OCTA's Tugon ng Masa survey conducted from Sept. 25 to 30 showed that 83 percent of 1,200 adult Filipinos support Marcos' decision to expose corruption in government, particularly in flood control projects. Only 3 percent of the respondents disagreed with Marcos' move, while 13 percent were undecided, according to the survey results.
David noted that Filipinos surveyed by OCTA Research want immediate outcomes, including accountability for corrupt officials and contractors linked to anomalous flood control projects. He added that respondents are also calling for increased transparency, as well as the efficient and timely implementation of government projects.
David expressed confidence that the issues surrounding the flood control projects will be resolved under the supervision of Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon. He urged the public not to judge the entire government 'based on a few bad apples,' apparently referring to corrupt officials. David emphasized the importance of supporting the government's efforts to expose corruption and highlighted the dedication of many government employees who genuinely serve the public.
