Manila: The Police Regional Office in Northern Mindanao: reported drowning incidents and the apprehension of a communist rebel at the conclusion of the Holy Week observance.
According to Philippines News Agency, PRO-10 director Brig. Gen. Jaysen de Guzman stated that there were three incidents involving the drowning of three minors and an adult in the region.
Simultaneously, 'Batman,' a 52-year-old combatant of the New People's Army, was arrested in Bukidnon province. The arrest, executed by the Misamis Oriental and Camiguin provincial field units, was related to the suspect's pending cases for violations of Republic Act 9851, known as the Philippine Act on Crimes Against International Humanitarian Law. The operation was conducted in collaboration with the Army's 103rd Infantry Brigade of the 1st Infantry Division.
De Guzman highlighted that despite these incidents, the police recorded zero criminal activities during the Lenten season. He attributed this to the strategic deployment of police officers at key convergence sites, which he noted as instrumental in deterring criminal activities and ensuring public safety throughout the week.
Additionally, the Army's 4th Infantry Division reported the seizure of an arms cache from one of the NPA hideouts in Gingoog City, Misamis Oriental, over the weekend.
