Cagayan de oro: Illegal gambling activities topped the list of confiscations for the first half of 2026 with PHP194.4 million in seized items, the Police Regional Office in Northern Mindanao (PRO-10) announced on Monday.
According to Philippines News Agency, during a press conference here, PRO-10 chief Brig. Gen. Christopher Abrahano said the police conducted 319 operations and arrested 522 individuals in the region for illegal gambling from January to June. "These accomplishments are the result of relentless police operations, stronger partnerships with our local government units and communities," he said.
Following the crackdown on illegal gambling was the campaign against illegal drugs, which seized PHP137.9 million worth of marijuana and shabu. During the same period, police conducted 1,641 operations and apprehended 1,908 individuals.
Anti-smuggling was PRO-10's third most valuable accomplishment in the first half of the year, resulting in the confiscation of over PHP119 million worth of smuggled cigarettes. The campaign against illegal mining also yielded PHP81.3 million worth of paraphernalia.
Abrahano also highlighted the 20.74-percent decline in the region's eight focus crimes, which translates to 432 cases from April 6 to July 17 this year, down from 545 cases during the same period in 2025.
In response to the recent school shootings, he reported that 94 schools conducted active shooter simulation exercises under the supervision of their respective police stations in the area. PRO-10 also prepares the deployment of personnel for the upcoming Bangsamoro parliamentary elections and the President's State of the Nation Address.
