Manila: The local stock market slipped on Tuesday, ending a three-day rally due to profit-taking, while the peso weakened against the US dollar.
According to Philippines News Agency, the Philippine Stock Exchange index (PSEi) fell 0.17 percent to 6,408.76, while the All Shares index declined 0.08 percent to 3,638.38. Most sectoral indices closed lower, led by Industrial (-0.56 percent), Property (-0.44 percent), Financials (-0.21 percent), and Holding Firms (-0.17 percent). Mining and Oil gained 2.10 percent, while Services rose 0.48 percent.
Trading volume reached 1.26 billion shares worth PHP6.75 billion. Advancers outnumbered decliners, 104 to 94, with 70 issues unchanged. 'The PSEi ended lower as investors booked profits after three straight days of buying pressure,' Luis Limlingan, head of sales at Regina Capital Development Corporation, said in a report.
Limlingan cited a Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas report showing foreign direct investment inflows fell year-on-year to USD6.2 billion as of end-October 2025, from USD8.2 billion in the same period in 2024, despite reaching a three-month high. The peso also weakened, closing at 59.34 from 59.26 on Monday. It opened at 59.28 and traded between 59.26 and 59.36, averaging 59.31 for the day. Trading volume increased to USD999.22 million from USD887.3 million in the previous session.
