PSEi Flat Amid Cautious Trading, Peso Moves Sideways

Manila: The Philippine stock market closed nearly unchanged amid cautious trading while the peso moved sideways on Tuesday. The Philippine Stock Exchange index (PSEi) declined by 0.08 percent to 6,384.62, while All Shares slightly went down by 0.06 percent to 3,735.54.

According to Philippines News Agency, the PSEi stayed below the 6,400 mark amid cautious trading and a lack of fresh catalysts, with most sectors slipping and thin volumes reflecting investor indecision. Regina Capital Development Corp. head of sales Luis Limlingan commented, "Market participants are awaiting clearer cues from upcoming global data and central bank commentary."

Sectors ended mixed with Services, Property, and Holding Firms closing in the green. Financials, Industrial, and Mining and Oil, however, closed in the negative territory. Decliners led advancers at 106 to 90.

Meanwhile, the peso moved sideways, closing at 55.56 from the previous day's 55.42 to a dollar. It opened at 55.35 and traded between 55.3 to 55.57, bringing the weighted average of the day to 55.40. Volume of trade rose to USD1.90 billion from USD1.47 billion.
