Public School Teachers to Receive 2023 Performance-Based Bonus: DBM

Manila: Public school teachers are set to receive their Performance-Based Bonus (PBB) for Fiscal Year 2023 after the Department of Education (DepEd) was declared eligible for the incentive, the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) announced Thursday.

According to Philippines News Agency, Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman stated that the eligibility of DepEd employees, including teachers, aligns with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s directive to recognize the crucial role of educators in strengthening the country's education system. Pangandaman emphasized the importance of continuing to provide educators with motivation and appropriate benefits to acknowledge their contributions.

House Committee on Appropriations Chair Mikaela Angela Suansing affirmed during plenary deliberations on the proposed 2026 national budget that the Technical Working Group on Executive Order No. 61 will meet on September 30 to finalize a resolution formally granting the PBB to DepEd.

Under Memorandum Circular No. 2023-1, agencies are required to meet criteria under four dimensions of accountability-performance, process, financial, and client satisfaction-and score at least 70 points to qualify for the bonus.

On Wednesday, the DBM announced the release of some PHP1.64 billion for the PBB of over 110,000 personnel and officials of the Philippine Army.
