Davao: The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) 11 has announced the release of PHP1.1 million in seed funding to support goat production projects for two farming groups in the region. This initiative falls under the Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) and aims to bolster the local goat meat industry.
According to Philippines News Agency, the DSWD-11 allocated PHP600,000 to the KASITOTAPANG SLP Association in Barangay Tamugan on September 23, and PHP500,000 to the CLAMS Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) SLP Association in Barangay Salaysay on September 17. These projects are designed to enhance the local production of goat meat, a staple livestock product with steady demand.
Both associations were formed through the SLP in collaboration with the 4Ps program. The department highlighted that many participants in these programs have prior experience in goat raising, making this endeavor a viable addition to their current livelihood activities.
The initiative is expected to enhance household income and food security for families involved in the 4Ps. To ensure the project's sustainability, it is supported by various local entities, including the City Veterinarian's Office, City Agriculturist Office, Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation, and the Salaysay and Tamugan communities.
These partners will provide essential services such as technical assistance and monitoring to reinforce the associations and their business operations, as noted by the DSWD-11.
